One of the most controversial areas around dieting
to lose weight has to do with the quantity of
carbohydrates you eat.
Over the past 15 or 20 years, low carbohydrate diets -
or "controlled" carbohydrate, as Dr. Atkins used
to describe his particular program - have proliferated.
Whether they mention carbs in their name or not,
these diets all follow pretty much the same principal:
drastically reduce the quantity of carbs in your diet,
and you will lose weight more quickly.
Some even go so far as to differentiate the type or
quality of carbohydrate-rich foods you should eat,
versus those you should avoid. For example, one
cornerstone of such diets is the reduction or even
elimination of refined and processed carbs, like those
found in breads, pasta, and candy.
Unfortunately, this type of approach tends to throw
out the baby with the bath water.
Problem is, your body and your brain need carbs
to function. Sure, reducing your carbs to incredibly
low levels will help you lose some quick weight.
But it's very, very difficult to maintain this
type of restricted dietary regimen. It's also unhealthy.
You see, in the low-carb paradigm, you basically are
stuck with certain types of vegetables. Any
substantive amount of fruits or whole grains - two
foods which are very healthy - is off limits.
Because of this deprivation, you tend to substitute
with those "pretend" products, like the bars, the
powders, the fake bread and so forth that Atkins and
others have marketed - and which, by the way, taste
terrible.
These products contain fun things such as sugar
alcohols and maltodextrin which have no nutritional
value and can give you diarrhea.
Do you honestly think replacing natural sources of carbs -
including fruits and whole grains that provide enormous
quantities of essential nutrients - with these fake,
chemical substitutes is at all healthy?
Having said all this, it IS true that manipulating
the carbs in your diet can indeed help you achieve
substantial improvements in your body composition,
as well as more consistent energy levels and
mood.
But you have to be smart about it.
In this month's issue of the Dynamic Fitness & Health
Letter - http://www.overcomeasthma.com/NLInfo.html -
I tell you about a strategy that allows you to eat
your bread and have cake too.
You see, it's not just about the quantity of carbs
you eat, or even the quality. There is another "x factor"
that can make the difference between putting on the
pounds and shedding them.
Making this change is pretty easy to do. The key is
learning how to apply this strategy exactly. And
this is what I share with you in the April issue.
How can you get your hands on this information?
All you have to do is sign up to receive a FREE
issue of my Dynamic Fitness & Health Letter.
When you sign up for the Dynamic Fitness & Health
Letter, every month you will receive cutting edge
information, ideas and inspiration on exercise,
nutrition, breathing and more.
My approach is unique because I integrate a number
of different modes and approaches - ancient and
oldtime as well as leading-edge...western as well
as eastern...exercises to build muscle, as well as
exercises to cultivate internal energy and
power...all with the goal of helping you focus on
what's important and effective so you can achieve
better health and longevity.
From breathing, to exercise, to eating and
supplementation,to developing optimal mental and
spiritual habits...I can help you achieve results -
AND enjoy the process.
Important: each issue of the Letter also includes the
"Overcome Asthma Update", with information exclusively
for people who are ready to overcome asthma.
Here's another thing: a lot of what I have to share
with you runs counter to the prevailing conventional
"wisdom" you find in the major media magazines,
books and websites.
Over the years, I've tried the conventional approaches,
and even many of the fads. This stuff is pablum for
the masses...much of it mushy, bland gruel that
unfortunately doesn't work over the long term. Why do
you think obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and
other serious and chronic health conditions continue
to explode?
I promise you, there is a better way.
