Virtually any activity you could ever want to learn - whether to improve your breathing,
your health, your career, your parenting skills, or others - can be broken down
into a basic set of skills.
These skills are the mechanics of the activity. In order to get the best results,
these skills are usually done in a certain way, with a certain intention, and with
an end result in mind.
If you take the time to learn the mechanics of something, you provide yourself
with a foundation to build upon - a foundation that no one or no thing can take
away from you.
And, over time, you become so adept at the mechanics, you forget about them
and do them naturally, without even thinking.
Breathing is a great example of an activity that we all take for granted. Yet
breathing properly is actually a skill.
Yes, I know that we obviously know how to breathe. We'd die if we didn't
breathe.
Problem is, most people have forgotten how to breathe properly, in a way
that energizes and fuels the body and brain.
And they may never have learned how breathing can contribute to their
personal and spiritual development.
As someone with asthma, I learned some years ago just how precious a
gift clear, free, deep breathing is. When something is taken away from you -
often out of the blue and without warning - you learn to appreciate it even more.
If you have asthma, you should be motivated more than most to learn the
mechanics of breathing....and how to apply proper breathing mechanics to
all of your activities.
It's hard to get good information out there. I know, because I searched to
augment what I had already learned.
Let me tell you, there are a lot of fruit loops out there who like to surround the
mechanics you need to know with a lot of "woo woo" supernatural stuff.
Or they pretend to be super spiritual beings who exist on a higher plane. So
if you aren't following what they are preaching, you must not be capable of
understanding.
This was one of my motivations to begin working with people in a more
straightforward fashion, without all the "woo woo" stuff. I'll have more on this
in tomorrow's tip.
Even with asthma, you can reclaim control of your breathing. It takes
some time and some focused effort, but you can do it.
